Built-in BBQ islands & full outdoor kitchens

A well-built outdoor kitchen is one of the best ways to use a Central Valley backyard, and it is some of our favorite work. Specialty Landscape designs and builds custom outdoor kitchens and built-in BBQ islands in Fresno and across the Valley, from a clean grill island for weekend cookouts to a full outdoor kitchen with a pizza oven, bar, sink, and refrigerator.

Because we are a design-build landscaper, we manage the whole build end to end. Our own crews build the masonry base, set the countertops, and tie the kitchen into the surrounding patio, shade, and lighting. Our licensed trade partners handle the gas, water, and electrical, all coordinated by us so it looks built-in rather than bolted on. Our work has earned the Fresno Bee Best of Central California award and 56 Google reviews at a 4.7-star average.

The estimate is free, and there is no obligation. Reach out, and you will talk with someone who actually builds these kitchens, not a call center, about how you like to cook and host.

Why homeowners call

Why Central Valley Homeowners Call Us for Outdoor Kitchens

Outdoor kitchen projects usually start with a clear picture of how someone wants to use their yard. Here is what we hear most.

01
Reason 01

You want to cook and entertain outside

The Valley gives you months of warm evenings, and an outdoor kitchen turns the backyard into the place everyone gathers. Homeowners come to us wanting to cook, serve, and host without running in and out of the house all night.

02
Reason 02

You are tired of a rolling grill on the patio

A freestanding grill is fine until you want counter space, storage, and a finished look. A built-in island gives you prep room, a place for the tools, and a piece that matches the rest of the yard instead of a cart pushed against the wall.

03
Reason 03

You want more than a grill

Pizza ovens, side burners, a bar with beverage coolers, a sink for prep and cleanup, a refrigerator so no one has to go inside for drinks. When the wish list grows past a grill, a full outdoor kitchen is the answer, and we build all of it.

04
Reason 04

You are building or redoing the whole backyard

Outdoor kitchens are often the centerpiece of a larger project. Because we design and build the entire landscape, we can set the kitchen where it works best and tie it into the patio, shade structure, fire feature, and lighting as one design.

05
Reason 05

You want it built to last in the heat

Sun, heat, and the occasional Valley storm are hard on an outdoor kitchen that was not built for them. Customers come to us after seeing cheaper islands crack, fade, or rust, wanting masonry, counters, and appliances that hold up.

06
Reason 06

You want one company to handle gas, masonry, and finish

An outdoor kitchen touches several trades: masonry, gas, plumbing, electrical, and finish carpentry. Rather than coordinate all of that yourself, homeowners have us handle the whole build on one schedule.

The Valley case for outdoor kitchens and bbq islands

Why an Outdoor Kitchen Earns Its Keep in the Valley

01
Point 01

Few places reward an outdoor kitchen like the Central Valley. Our long warm season means you can cook and eat outside for a big chunk of the year, and pairing a kitchen with a shade structure or patio cover extends that even through the hottest afternoons. An outdoor kitchen here is not a novelty you use twice a summer; it is a room you add to the house.

02
Point 02

The same heat that makes the kitchen useful is hard on how it is built. Cheap prefab islands and thin finishes fade, crack, and rust under Valley sun and dry-then-damp swings. We build on solid masonry bases with durable countertops and quality appliances so the kitchen still looks and works right after years of use, not just on install day.

03
Point 03

Placement matters too. Wind, sun angle, and how the smoke drifts all affect where a grill and seating should go, and a kitchen has to connect cleanly to gas, water, and power. Because we design the whole space, we set the kitchen where it will actually be comfortable to use and run the utilities to it properly the first time.

What is not included

A note on scope so expectations are clear: we build the kitchen and include the gas, water, and power hookups, handled by our licensed trade partners, as part of the project. We help with appliance selection and install what fits your build and budget. If a project needs a city permit for gas or electrical work, we flag that and prepare what is required; the homeowner is the permit applicant.

Pricing

How Outdoor Kitchen Pricing Works

There is no flat price for an outdoor kitchen, because a grill island and a full kitchen with a pizza oven, bar, sink, and appliances are worlds apart. What drives the cost:

The size of the island or kitchen and how much counter, storage, and seating it includes.
The appliances: a single built-in grill versus a grill, side burners, pizza oven, refrigerator, and beverage center.
Countertop and finish materials, from tile to concrete to premium granite and stone veneer.
How far gas, water, and power have to run to reach the kitchen, and whether that work is straightforward on your lot.
Whether the kitchen is a standalone add-on or part of a larger patio and backyard build.

Every price comes after a free on-site visit. We come out, look at where the kitchen will go and how the utilities reach it, talk through your must-haves, and give you an itemized written estimate. We will build to your budget and tell you honestly what each upgrade adds.

Why us for outdoor kitchens and bbq islands

Why Specialty Landscape for Outdoor Kitchens

01
01

We build the whole kitchen in-house

Masonry, counters, and finish handled by our own team; gas, plumbing, and electrical run by our licensed trade partners and coordinated by us. You are not the one lining up separate trades or hoping they show up in the right order.

That is why our kitchens read as built-in and tie cleanly into the rest of the yard, instead of looking like an island dropped onto a patio as an afterthought.

02
02

Built on real masonry, not a thin shell

We build outdoor kitchens on solid masonry bases with durable finishes, because Valley heat and sun punish anything less. The base is what a kitchen lives or dies on.

Homeowners come to us after watching cheaper prefab islands crack and fade. Built right, an outdoor kitchen is a permanent piece of the home, not a two-season purchase.

03
03

Gas, water, and power done properly

A grill island is only as good as the utilities feeding it. The gas, water, and electrical are run to code by our licensed trade partners, and we connect the appliances so everything works safely and reliably.

Getting the utilities right the first time is the difference between a kitchen you enjoy and one that becomes a headache. We flag any permits a project needs up front.

04
04

Designed around how you actually cook

We set counter heights, spacing, and appliance placement so the kitchen is comfortable to work in, not just nice to look at. Where the grill sits, where the prep space is, where guests gather.

Because we design the surrounding space too, we can position the kitchen for shade, wind, and easy flow between cooking, serving, and seating.

05
05

Licensed, bonded, and insured

We hold California contractor license CSLB #1058363 and carry a bond and active workers’ compensation, which matters on a build that involves gas and electrical work.

You can verify the license on the state board site. Gas and outdoor electrical work are not work to hand to an unlicensed crew.

06
06

Award-winning quality

Our work has been recognized as Best of Central California by the Fresno Bee and rated among the region’s top landscapers. Outdoor living is where a lot of that reputation was earned.

An outdoor kitchen is a centerpiece, and it is worth building with a team that treats it that way.

The Questions to Ask Before You Buy an Outdoor Kitchen

An outdoor kitchen is part appliance showroom and part construction project, and most buyers focus on the first part. The appliances and the finish are the easy things to compare on a quote. The harder questions, the ones that decide whether the kitchen is safe and still solid in ten years, are about how it is built and how it is fed.

01
What it takes · 01

Ask how the gas and electrical are handled. A grill island lives or dies on its utilities. Gas has to be sized for the appliances you are running, connections have to be right, and outdoor electrical has to be installed for the weather, all of it to code and inspected where required. This is the part of the job that separates a licensed builder from a crew that drops in an island and taps a line, and it is why we run and connect the utilities ourselves and flag any permits the work needs. It is not glamorous, but it is the difference between a kitchen you trust and one you worry about every time you light the grill.

02
What it takes · 02

Then ask what it is built on. A durable outdoor kitchen sits on a solid masonry structure and a proper footing, so it carries the weight of stone counters and appliances without settling or shifting as the ground moves between dry summers and damp winters. Prefab shells and thin footings cost less and go in faster, and they announce it within a couple of seasons as corners crack and finishes let go. We build the structure to stay put, because every appliance and countertop you choose rides on it.

Common questions

Outdoor Kitchens FAQs

Do you charge for an estimate?

No. The on-site consultation and estimate are free. We look at your space and how the utilities reach it, talk through your wish list, and give you an honest written estimate with no obligation.

How much does an outdoor kitchen cost?

It depends entirely on size and features. A built-in grill island is a very different project from a full kitchen with a pizza oven, bar, sink, and refrigerator. After we see your space, you get an itemized estimate with the cost of each appliance and upgrade laid out.

What can you build into an outdoor kitchen?

Built-in grills, side burners, pizza ovens, bars and beverage centers, sinks, refrigerators, storage, and the counters and masonry to hold it all together, tied into gas, water, and power. We build the whole kitchen in-house.

Do you handle the gas and electrical, or do I need other contractors?

We handle it. The gas, water, and electrical are run by our licensed trade partners and coordinated by us as part of the build, so you are not the one lining up separate contractors. If a permit is required, we flag it and prepare what is needed.

Can you build a pizza oven?

Yes, wood-fired or gas, built into the island or as a feature of its own. It is one of the more popular upgrades for households that want more than a grill.

Will the kitchen hold up to Valley heat and sun?

Built on a solid masonry base with durable counters and quality appliances, yes. That is the whole point of building it right rather than dropping in a thin island that will not hold up.

Can you match the kitchen to my patio and house?

Yes. Because we design and build the surrounding space too, we finish the kitchen to match your home and tie it into the patio, shade, and lighting so it looks built-in.

Do you build the patio, shade cover, and lighting too?

Yes. Outdoor kitchens are often part of a larger backyard build. We handle the patio, patio cover or pergola, fire features, and lighting as one project.

How long does an outdoor kitchen take to build?

A grill island can go quickly, while a full kitchen with utilities and multiple appliances takes longer. We give you a realistic timeline with your estimate.

Do you help pick the grill and appliances?

Yes. We are not locked to one brand. We help you choose appliances that fit how you cook, and that hold up outdoors, then source and install them.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. We hold California contractor license CSLB #1058363 and are bonded and insured with active workers’ compensation, which matters on a build involving gas and electrical.

What areas do you serve?

We are based in Fresno and serve Clovis, Sanger, Madera, Selma, Reedley, Kingsburg, Visalia, Hanford, and communities across Fresno, Madera, Kings, and Tulare counties. If your town is not on our list, ask. Chances are we cover it.
