Landscape Lighting in Fresno & the Central Valley
Low-voltage & LED landscape lighting
Good landscape lighting is what lets you enjoy your yard after the sun goes down, and in the Central Valley, where the evening is often the best part of the day to be outside, that is a lot of hours. Specialty Landscape designs and installs low-voltage LED landscape lighting across Fresno and the Valley, from a few well-placed path lights to a full system that makes the whole yard come alive at night.
Lighting is as much about design as installation. Placed well, it makes a home look its best, makes walkways and steps safe, and shows off the trees, walls, and planting you invested in. We design the lighting as part of the landscape and install it with our own crew, and our work has earned the Fresno Bee Best of Central California award and 56 Google reviews at a 4.7-star average.
Estimates are free, and the best way to picture it is in person. Call or text, and we will look at your yard, talk through what you want lit, and design the system around it.
Why Central Valley Homeowners Call Us for Landscape Lighting
Lighting projects usually start with one of these. Here is what we hear most.
Your yard disappears at night
You invested in a landscape and then cannot see it after dark. The most common reason homeowners call is simply to enjoy the yard in the evening, when Valley summers make it the best time to be outside.
You want safe walkways and steps
Dark paths, steps, and driveways are a trip hazard and an easy place for a guest to stumble. Path and step lighting makes the property safe to move around at night.
You want to show off the house and landscape
Uplighting trees and features and washing the front of the house with light does more for curb appeal at night than almost anything else, and it makes the home feel finished after dark.
You want your patio and outdoor kitchen usable after dark
A covered patio or outdoor kitchen is only as good as its lighting once the sun sets. We light these spaces so they work for cooking and gathering into the evening.
You want security and presence
A well-lit property is a less inviting target and a more welcoming one for you. Lighting adds real security and a sense of presence to a home at night.
Your old lighting has failed
Fixtures out, a transformer that trips, corroded connections, or a big-box kit that faded after a year. Homeowners come to us to replace failed or DIY lighting with a system built to last.
Why Valley Yards Come Alive After Dark
In the Central Valley, a lot of the year, the evening is when the yard is actually pleasant to be in. Summer days push well past a hundred degrees, so the hours people most want to spend outside, cooking, gathering, relaxing, come after sunset. Landscape lighting is what makes those hours usable, turning a yard you can only enjoy in daylight into one that works at night.
Lighting also protects the investment the rest of the landscape represents. A homeowner who has put money into mature trees, stonework, a patio, and planting can only see all of it for half the day without lighting. The right system brings the trees, walls, water-wise planting, and hardscape forward at night, so the yard looks as good at nine as it does at noon, and the front of the house makes the same impression after dark.
And in the dry Valley climate, lighting is one of the lowest-maintenance upgrades you can add. A properly built low-voltage LED system uses very little power, the LEDs last for years, and there is no seasonal fuss. The catch is that it has to be built properly, because the difference between a system that runs evenly for a decade and one that flickers, dims, and fails is entirely in how it was designed and installed.
The Lighting We Design and Install
Landscape lighting works best in layers. Here is what we design and install, combined to fit your yard and how you use it.

A note on scope: we design and install low-voltage landscape lighting and the transformers and controls that run it. Line-voltage electrical work beyond the landscape system, and any permit an electrical tie-in requires, we flag and coordinate; the homeowner is the permit applicant. Outdoor-kitchen and patio-cover lighting is often built on the same project and is covered on those pages too.
How Landscape Lighting Pricing Works
A lighting quote depends less on square footage than on how many fixtures you want and where the power has to run. What moves the price:
Every price comes after a free on-site visit, ideally near dusk so we can see how the yard reads at night. We talk through what you want lit, lay out the fixtures and runs, and give you an itemized written estimate. A cheap kit costs less up front and shows it within a year, which is a big part of what we design around.
What Happens, Step by Step
From the first call to a yard that works at night, here is how a lighting project runs with us.
Fast response
Call or text and reach a real person. We get back to you quickly to set a time to come out.
Free on-site design walk
We walk the yard, ideally near dusk, and talk through what you want lit for beauty, safety, and security. No charge, no obligation.
Lighting plan and estimate
We lay out the fixtures, layers, and wire runs, size the transformer, and give you an itemized written estimate.
Scheduling and materials
With the plan approved, we schedule the install and order the fixtures and controls.
Wire runs and transformer
We run the low-voltage wiring, sized and connected properly, and set the transformer where it belongs.
Fixture placement and aiming
We set and aim each fixture, then adjust at night, because lighting is only right once you see it in the dark.
Controls and smart setup
We wire in timers or smart controls so the system runs on a schedule, and show you how to adjust it.
Night walk-through
We walk the finished system with you after dark, fine-tune the aim, and make sure the yard reads exactly the way you want.
Why Specialty Landscape for Landscape Lighting
We design in layers, not just fixtures
Good landscape lighting is a design, not a pile of path lights. We layer path, uplight, accent, and task lighting so the yard has depth and reads well, rather than dotting the lawn with lights.
The aim and placement are where lighting is won or lost, and we adjust every fixture at night to get it right.
Built to last, not a big-box kit
We install professional low-voltage LED systems with a properly sized transformer, correct wire gauge, and weatherproof connections, so the system runs evenly for years.
The plug-and-play kits from a big-box store are cheaper and show it fast, with voltage drop that dims the far fixtures and connections that corrode and fail. We build the kind of system that does not do that.
Sized and connected right
Voltage drop is the quiet killer of landscape lighting. A transformer that is too small or wire that is too thin for the run leaves the far fixtures dim and shortens the life of the whole system.
We size the transformer and wire to the actual runs and use solid, weatherproof connections, so every fixture gets the power it needs, and the system lasts.
Part of a design-build company
Because we design and build the whole landscape, the lighting is planned with the trees, walls, patio, and planting in mind, and it can go in as part of a larger project or on its own.
We know what is worth lighting in your yard because we have built it on many projects.
Low-voltage means safe and efficient
A low-voltage LED system is safe to work around, sips power, and the LEDs last for years, so it is one of the lowest-maintenance, lowest-cost-to-run upgrades you can add.
It is a lot of impact for very little ongoing cost, which is part of why lighting is such a rewarding addition.
Owner-operated and award-winning
Specialty Landscape is owner-run, and Armando stays close to the work. The company has been named Best of Central California by the Fresno Bee.
Lighting is the finishing touch that shows off everything else, and it is worth doing with a team that cares how the whole yard reads at night.

What Separates a Lighting System That Lasts From a Big-Box Kit
Landscape lighting looks simple from the outside: a few fixtures and a transformer, and that simplicity is exactly why so much of it is done badly. The difference between a system that still lights the yard evenly in five years and a kit that dims, flickers, and fails within one is in the parts you never think about: the transformer, the wire, and the connections.
Start with voltage drop, the issue that quietly ruins most DIY lighting. Low-voltage systems lose power over distance, so if the transformer is undersized or the wire is too thin for the run, the fixtures nearest the transformer burn bright while the ones at the far end go dim, and the whole system runs unbalanced. A professional install sizes the transformer to the total load and the wire gauge to the length of each run, and often splits the yard into runs so every fixture gets the voltage it needs. That is why our systems light evenly from the first fixture to the last, and a bargain kit does not.
Then the connections and fixtures. Outdoor wiring lives in wet, buried, sun-baked conditions, so the connections have to be genuinely weatherproof, not the twist-on caps that corrode and fail after a season. We use solid, sealed connections and quality LED fixtures rated for the outdoors, so the system does not develop dead spots and dark runs a year in. Between proper sizing and proper connections, the result is landscape lighting that keeps doing its job quietly for years, instead of becoming the thing you keep going out to fix.

Fixtures, LEDs, and Controls
We are not tied to one brand. We choose fixtures and controls that fit your yard, your look, and the way you want to run the system, and build them into a system that lasts.
LED fixtures
Quality low-voltage LED fixtures for path, uplight, accent, and step lighting, chosen for output, beam, and finish, and rated for years of outdoor use.
Transformers and wiring
Properly sized transformers and correct-gauge wiring with weatherproof connections, the parts that decide whether the system lights evenly and lasts.
Smart controls
Timers, photocells, and smart controllers so the system comes on at dusk and off on a schedule, with app control where you want it.
Landscape Lighting FAQs
Do you charge for an estimate?
No. The on-site design walk and estimate are free, and we like to do it near dusk so we can see how the yard reads at night. You get an honest written estimate with no obligation.
How much does landscape lighting cost?
It depends mostly on how many fixtures you want and how much wire has to run, plus the transformer and any smart controls. After we walk the yard, you get an itemized estimate.
Why not just buy a lighting kit from a store?
You can, and a lot of them dim, flicker, and fail within a year. Store kits are usually undersized on the transformer and wire and use connections that corrode outdoors. A professional low-voltage system is sized and connected to run evenly for years.
What is low-voltage lighting, and is it safe?
Low-voltage lighting runs on a transformer that steps household power down to a safe level, so it is safe to work around and efficient to run. It is the standard for landscape lighting.
Will LED lighting save on power?
Yes. LEDs use a fraction of the power of older bulbs and last for years, so a low-voltage LED system is one of the cheapest upgrades to run and the lowest-maintenance.
Can you add smart or app control?
Yes. We can wire in timers, photocells, and smart controllers so the system comes on at dusk and off on schedule, with app control where you want it.
Can you fix or expand my existing lighting?
Yes. We repair failed systems, from a dead run or a tripping transformer to corroded connections, and expand existing lighting with new fixtures and runs.
Do you light patios, outdoor kitchens, and steps?
Yes. We light covered patios and outdoor kitchens for evening use and add integrated deck and step lighting for safety and a clean look.
How long does a lighting install take?
A focused system can go in quickly, while a large layered system across the whole property takes longer, plus a night visit to aim the fixtures. We give you a realistic timeline with your estimate.
When do you aim the lights?
At night. Lighting is only right once you see it in the dark, so we set fixtures during the day and come back after dark to aim and fine-tune every one.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. We hold California contractor license CSLB #1058363 and are bonded and insured with active workers’ compensation. You can verify the license on the CSLB website.
What areas do you serve?
We are based in Fresno and serve Clovis, Sanger, Madera, Selma, Reedley, Kingsburg, Visalia, Hanford, and communities across Fresno, Madera, Kings, and Tulare counties. If your town is not on our list, just ask. Chances are we cover it.
