Artificial Turf That Holds Up on a Clovis Lot

Most of the artificial turf we install in Clovis goes into two kinds of yards: brand-new subdivision homes off the northeast edge of town that were handed over as bare graded dirt, and established yards where a family with kids and dogs is tired of watering a lawn that never looks good through a Clovis summer. In both cases, the turf itself is the easy part.

What actually determines whether a turf lawn will still look and drain right in five years is everything underneath it: how the ground is excavated, what base goes down, how it is compacted, and how water is planned to move through and off it. On a Clovis lot, that point matters more than usual, because the soil under a new subdivision home is rarely ready to drain the way turf needs.

Why the Ground Under Clovis Turf Matters

A turf lawn is only as good as what it sits on, and Clovis lots come with a few specific conditions worth building around:

01

Compacted new-construction soil that will not drain on its own

On the newer Clovis subdivisions spreading toward the foothills, the ground a builder leaves behind is usually heavily compacted graded dirt, sometimes with construction debris worked in. That kind of soil sheds water slowly, so turf laid straight over it traps moisture underneath. We excavate to the right depth and build a permeable base so the lawn drains down through it and away.

02

A pet-and-kid yard needs drainage designed for it

So many Clovis turf projects are family yards with dogs, and odor is a drainage problem before it is anything else. When urine and rinse water cannot drain away from the surface, a turf lawn starts to smell. We slope the base to drain, choose an infill that does not hold odor, and set up pet zones so they rinse clean and dry out fast.

03

Foothill-edge heat and sun on the surface

Clovis sits a little higher than central Fresno, around 360 feet on the eastern edge of the valley, and summers run long and well into the triple digits. Turf and infill both have to be chosen for that sun so the fibers hold their color and the surface stays reasonable underfoot. We spec the product for the Clovis summer it will actually face.

What we install

What a Clovis Turf Project Includes

We handle the whole job in-house, from tearing out what is there to the final brushed finish, so one crew owns how it drains and how it wears:

01

Removal and grading

We strip the old lawn or clear the bare lot, then grade the area to the slopes the drainage plan calls for before any base goes in.

02

Base and drainage

A compacted aggregate base with the right depth and permeability so water moves down and out through the base.

03

Turf and infill

Quality SYNLawn turf seamed and anchored, with an infill chosen to suit a pet-and-kid yard so it drains and does not pack down.

04

Ground cover around it

Decomposed granite, gravel, bark, and planting beds to finish the areas turf should not cover, so the whole yard reads as one design.

05

Pet and play zones

Dog runs and kids’ play areas set up to rinse clean and drain, which is where a poorly drained turf job on a Clovis lot usually goes wrong first.

Why us, here

Why Clovis Homeowners Have Us Install Their Turf

01

The base is done right, because we do it in-house

The same crew that quotes your Clovis turf builds the base under it, so nobody is cutting the unseen prep to hit a number. That prep is the whole reason one turf lawn drains for years and another starts to smell and settle in a season.

02

Licensed, bonded, and genuinely local

Specialty Landscape holds an active C-27 Landscape Contractor license (CSLB #1058363), carries a contractor bond, and keeps workers’ compensation coverage active. We are a Fresno-based, award-winning company right next door to Clovis, not a national brand routing your call away.

03

Right next door, so we show up

Clovis is immediately beside our Fresno office, so getting out to measure, install, and follow up is easy and quick. You are not waiting on a crew driving in from far away.

Step by step

How We Install Turf in Clovis

01

Free on-site visit and measure

We come out, measure the area, look at how the lot drains and where water goes in a hard rain, and talk through how you actually use the yard. You get an itemized written quote with the scope spelled out.

02

Remove, excavate, and grade

We remove the old lawn or clear the bare ground, then excavate and grade to the depth and slopes specified in the drainage plan. This is the step a rushed install skips, and it is the one that determines everything that follows.

03

Base, compaction, and drainage

We lay and compact the aggregate base to the proper depth, install any drainage the lot calls for, and confirm the surface falls as it should before a single roll of turf goes down.

04

Lay, seam, anchor, and infill

We fit and seam the turf, anchor the edges, brush in the infill, and walk the finished lawn with you so you know how to keep it looking new.

Clovis FAQs

Clovis Artificial Turf FAQs

Will artificial turf actually drain on my new Clovis lot?

It will when the base is built. The compacted builder soil beneath a new Clovis subdivision home does not drain well on its own, so we excavate and lay a permeable base to carry water down and away. That base is what we will not cut corners on.

We have dogs. Will the turf smell?

Not when it is installed to drain. Odor comes from liquid sitting on the surface, so we slope the base, use an infill that does not trap odor, and set up pet areas to rinse clean and dry quickly. That handling is the difference on a pet-heavy Clovis yard.

Does turf get too hot in the Clovis summer?

Turf does warm up in direct triple-digit sun, as any surface does. We choose products and infill made for valley heat and can plan shade nearby, so a Clovis turf lawn stays usable through the summer it will actually face.

Will turf pass our Clovis HOA?

Yes, in most cases. Newer Clovis neighborhoods generally allow artificial turf, and we install to a clean, approvable standard; if your HOA has a submittal process, we design the plan to meet its requirements so it passes review.
